Doing Good: It’s Good For Business

For many of us, we set out to become business owners in order to make the world a better place through our collective skills and talents. We believe in doing things differently—and better—for our clients and the business world, and it’s become part of our origin, or founder’s story. Volunteering goes hand in hand with this type of business philosophy. If you’re not convinced, here’s a few reasons to include doing good in your business strategy:
1. It Brands You as Human
We talk a lot about Branding in this newsletter and one of the things we want our business brands is to be is, not just a corporate entity, but a human who cares about other humans. It shows others that you have leadership abilities and that you know how to take action. Volunteering also builds your reputation not just as someone working in the community but as someone who cares about the community.
2. It Defines Your Purpose
We know from our last post that Strong Brands Express a Clear and Consistent Purpose. Consumers are seeking out socially responsible businesses at an increasing rate. Showing your higher purpose through fundraising, donating and volunteering is a great way to feature your business as one that gives back.
3. It Strengthens Your Community
Aside from the huge benefits of a sense of accomplishment, volunteering enables you to collaborate, network and share ideas with people in your community you might not otherwise spend time with. You’ll be investing in your community and the world you set out to improve in the first place.

Make a Difference Today
Emilie volunteers year-round with Operation Christmas Child, a faith-based organization that collects shoeboxes filled with gifts, hygiene items, school supplies, clothing and delivers them to children living in extreme poverty around the world. For many of these children, this gift-filled shoebox is the first gift they have ever received.
We are also collecting shoebox items. Contact Emilie Downs to arrange a drop off.
Specifically, we are looking for:
Toys: stuffed animals, dolls, soccer balls
Clothing items: shirts, socks, underwear, hats and gloves
Hygiene items: toothbrushes, soap, lip balm, washcloths
School supplies: notebooks, pencils, crayons, rulers, calculators
